Your Fashion Guide to Artbox 2018: 10 Dress Styles For Guys & Gals

Bigger and better: Artbox 2018. Taking over a larger area with more food and retail stores, Artbox Singapore returns after its debut last year. For those of you hearing of Artbox for the first time, it’s actually a Bangkok based market that places emphasis on locally made crafts, accessories, clothes and food.

With over 400 local and regional creative makers and partners, not including the countless food stalls, don’t expect to finish all your shopping (or eating) in just one evening. But fret not; Artbox Singapore is on for not one, but two consecutive weekends for you to indulge and enjoy.

There’s no dress code per se, but if you’re getting frustrated over what to wear for the event, here are some suggestions from us that are perfect for the gram (both guys and gals)!

1. Overalls

Well, I guess that overall, it’s a really great look. Whether it be overall shorts or the full length ones, overalls lend a retro look that fits well with the vibe of Artbox. Just slap on a basic tee below and some sneakers and you’re more than ready to go. There are countless varieties available on the market, from light blue denim to striped or distressed ones so feel free to explore.

There’ll be a zone with kombis and retro cars where you can get an Instaworthy photo while posing with the vintage vehicles; a perfect photo for your #Throwbacks.

2. Off-Shoulder

If you wish to go with a more summery vibe, an off-shoulder dress or top is for you. Go for brighter colours like yellow or pink if you want to pop or stand out amidst the crowd, or one with prints for a wilder vibe. In Singapore’s heat, who wouldn’t want an outfit that’s cooling at the same time?

Since you’re already dressing the part, win a trip to Europe for you and a friend with Contiki’s lucky draw! Simply spend $50, fill in a lucky draw entry and start packing because you might just be the lucky one.

3. Japanese-Inspired

Feel like you’re at a matsuri (festival) with a simple Kimono inspired jacket. This easy and casual outfit is perfect for those of you visiting Artbox the next day and still hasn’t decided what to wear. A basic top and either shorts or jeans are all you need to complete their simple look.

Worried that it might be too warm? Don’t worry; most of the Kimono jackets are made of fairly thin material so it’s suitable for our weather.

Complete the Japanese look with the enticing Japanese inspired goodie from Saiko and Kane Mochi!

4. Elephant Pants

To all the girls and guys too lazy to put together an outfit, I’m pretty sure most of you own a pair of elephant pants or baba pants after a trip to Bangkok or Vietnam.

We suggest pairing the pants with a simple t-shirt or top and you’re good to go. Baggy, airy and comfortable, these pants are definitely the way to go.

Don’t the prints immediately remind you of Thailand? What better place to wear it than a Thai based market?

With such style and comfort, jump into Artbox’s multi-coloured Foam Pit, spruced up with tons of pool floaties! Jump in with your friends and enjoy basking in your very own pool floaty fantasy.

5. Romper

If you were considering wearing a skirt or a dress, perhaps the romper would be a better alternative. Artbox is pretty big so be prepared to walk. A lot. Why feel constricted in a skirt when this simple yet sweet outfit is so easily available? To quote Covergirl “Easy, Breezy, Beautiful”; and that’s exactly what the romper is.

Worn best with flats or sandals, feel free, chic and spunky with this easy one-piece outfit.

Well, such an outfit is also perfect for travelling to other tropical countries like Thailand. Guess what, stand to win free trips to Bangkok by participating in the Mileslife games at Artbox. Psst, they’re giving away one ticket every hour so you’ll get at least 8 chances to win per day!

Just mix and match your favourite Bape, Off-White, Supreme and Palace clothes and you’re done (don’t forget the Airmaxes and NMDs). Decked out in the trendiest brands, you’ll look like you were made for Korean street fashion. Go with simple monochrome colours or more bold designs like camouflage, the brands and logos are sure to catch the eye of everyone at Artbox.

Groove to the music by local bands such as Finding Jane, meticulously curated by the organisers, and look good doing it. Get ready for an evening of fun, food and great music.

7. Basic

Ah, the no-brainer, basic jeans and shirt combo. Grab any pair of jeans from your closet and a plain coloured tee. Look good without having to think much about your outfit.

But if you wish to tweak the basic look, go for it. We suggest outerwear like hoodies, jackets or cardigans to make that look a little less boring. Don’t hesitate to slip on a pair of shades to look that little bit cooler.

With  over 20 shipping containers at Artbox for you to fulfil your ‘basic photo’ desires, knock yourself out taking photos against these artistic and hip backdrops. Clear your phone memory because your gallery is going to be FILLED with photos from Artbox.

8. Suspenders

You’d think suspenders would have gone out of fashion by now but they still look surprisingly fashionable. Clip on the suspenders to your jeans or trousers and slip into a polo tee or collared shirt for a more sophisticated, hipster look. To complete the look, popular headdress choices include fedoras or newsboy caps.

Suspenders aren’t the most functional or practical but as far as we can see, they fit the indie theme of Artbox like a glove.

Complement the outfit with some drinks in vintage glass bottles from Row Hard Alcoholic Root Beer. With a slight kick and the familiar homey taste of root beer, this drink (and of course the photo with the drinks), don’t miss it out!

9. Aztec prints

Aztec printed shirts and tops are one of the few items that are colourful, vintage and versatile. Aztec designs lend a whimsical, tribal twist to an otherwise mundane look. We recommend wearing these aztec prints with more plain clothing to allow them to truly stand out.

Looking for something similar but with a more regional twist? Batik inspired clothing also deliver the same eye-catching impact but with more traditional Indonesian designs.

Pose with the creative art installations ranging from graffiti to sculptures where you’ll be able to take as many photos as you want, have fun doing so and create Artbox 2018 memories with your friends and family.

10. Denim

Denim isn’t just limited to jeans. Nowadays, this popular material has made it’s was into the bag, shirt and jacket industry. Have a throwback to the 1900s with a head-to-toe denim outfit along with a rad pair of sneakers for an outfit that’ll make you fit seamlessly into the event. With quaint lights in the background, who wouldn’t look good in denim?

Denim goes a long way in delivering a retro, olde worlde look.

The outfit plus the thousands of fairy lights in the background? The small lights are sure to make your outfit pop. Plus, they really add to the atmosphere making it the perfect

These are our top 10 outfit recommendations for all you girls and guys planning to visit Artbox over the next two weekends! Don’t be constrained to these looks, be bold and express yourself however you’d like. Artbox is a creative market after all. If your pictures don’t turn out as expected the first time, there’ll always be another opportunity (or excuse) to visit Artbox Singapore 2018 again.

Here’s a tip: Go early to avoid the queues. See you there!
