An employer is allegedly threatening to dock her domestic helper’s pay simply because her child has not been toilet trained and she therefore has to spend more on diapers.
On June 10, Facebook user Md Amin HosSain made a post on Facebook group FDW in Singapore (working conditions forum). In the post, the domestic helper explained that her employer had asked her to help potty-train her child.
However, the child was struggling to learn and as a result, still relied on diapers. The maid went on to say that her employer was now threatening to deduct her salary until she could get her child potty-trained because of the fact that she would have to keep buying diapers till the child was trained.
This is what she wrote:
my mdam want to cut my salary about diaper bcoz until now the baby cnnot go toilet own self bcoz she say i nver train his kid go toilet..so she want we share buy diaper..until the kid know how to go toilet?she told me i dnt hve ryt to talk about her..just do my job and be as a maid so its mean she hve ryt to cut my salary??
Netizens were quick to jump in with many agreeing with the domestic helper and encouraging her to go to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) and to not let her employer deduct her salary.
However, some people were not so sympathetic and demanded proof as this was a one sided story and many believed that there was more to the story.
