Two young men had concocted an elaborate plan — complete with gloves, knives and other blunt tools — to pull off a robbery on an innocent taxi driver, but failed to execute it even before it began. Idiots.
Aged 21 and 23, the two men boarded a taxi along Mandai Road on Monday afternoon, directing the driver to proceed to Loyang, but re-directed him to Chuan Hoe Avenue (near the Japanese Cemetery Park in Hougang) later on.
While driving along Chuan Hoe Avenue, the taxi driver spotted that one of the would-be robbers was retrieving a knife from his army backpack. He immediately alighted and called the police on them.
Officers promptly arrived at the scene and arrested the two young thugs, who attempted to flee. Items confiscated from them included a knife, gloves, socks, a hammer and a spanner.
Both men will be charged in court today for attempted armed robbery with common intention, and will face up to seven years in jail and at least 12 strokes of the cane.
