On Wednesday (15 Aug), the body of a man was discovered floating in the waters of Punggol Waterway.
At about 7.17am, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) were alerted to an incident at a canal near Block 316C Punggol Way.
When they arrived at the scene, they found a man, who looked to be in his 30s, floating in the water.
An an SCDF spokesman said:
A man in his 30s was retrieved by SCDF officers and declared dead at the scene by paramedics
A netizen, who shared pictures with STOMP, told them that they only physically saw the body at about 9am. However, they reported that they had smelt something off from as early as midnight.
This is his full recount:
I physically saw the body only at 9am this morning. But I was doing some work at midnight before that and I could smell some stench but thought it might be a passing smell. When I went to my car to grab my wallet, the stench kind of followed. I thought I stepped onto poo so this morning kind of solved what that mysterious smell was.
The police have classed this as an unnatural death and are investigating.
