Walking towards Tampines MRT station, I saw a familiar figure on wheelchair but with his feet amputated.
Lost to diabetes. I know because I have talked with him before and always bought packet tissues from him. I went up to him to ask about him.
He had stayed in hospital for half a year after the amputations. Each amputation cost $35k. Plus the 6-month stay in hospital, the bill came to over $300k. That was what I gathered from him.
I asked about the finances. He said the government picked up the whole bill because he had no one to depend on. The hospital also gave him a new motorised wheelchair because the one he had was spoilt.
He lives in Beach Road and travels by MRT to Tampines on his wheelchair.
So, how can one still say that the government is heartless or the healthcare system deny some people of the care they need?
