Concorde Hotel gets on board 2-week paternity scheme

New fathers working at Concorde Hotel Singapore will now have two weeks of paternity leave instead of one.

The hotel became the latest company to support the Government’s voluntary initiative announced during the National Day Rally.

Employee fathers whose children are born on or after Jan 1, 2015 and are Singapore citizens can now take up to two weeks of paternity leave, with the flexibility of using it within 12 months from the birth of the children.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced in August that paternity leave will be doubled to two weeks on a voluntary basis, and that the Government will pay for the extra week of leave.

The Civil Service was the first to implement the enhanced paternity leave, which was backdated to Jan 1, 2015. Since then, companies such as telco Singtel, banks DBS and OCBC have come on board too.

Concorde Hotel general manager Karl L. Muir said: “By voluntarily agreeing to provide the additional week of paternity leave, we hope to improve the overall well-being of our staff and their ability to cope with family demands.”
