Aide Iskandar resigned after Singapore U23 lost.

Ex-national footballer and coach of the Young Lions U23, Aide Iskandar announced his resignation today (June 11) after his team’s defeat to Indonesia in the group stage of the SEA Games football competition.

During a post-match press conference, Aide quoted: “I am resigning. I have told the players, they need to go on, they are still young… I need to go back to my family, they’ve been waiting for me for a long time,”

As this news came as a surprise,  president of the Football Association of Singapore, Mr Zainudin Nordin, released a statement following his resignation.

“I can understand why Aide has made this decision at this point of time. Hopefully, after a few days’ rest, we can have a discussion with him and persuade him to change his mind. Regardless of how we have fared at the SEA Games, Aide is a good coach and has a long and bright future ahead of him.”
